Regulars will know that I post Dates To Note, albeit less frequently than I used to do. These are often health-related and this one is in that category. Today is the start of Ask Your Pharmacist Week here in the UK – to be honest I don’t know if this happens anywhere else. It is organised by the National Pharmacy Association (NPA), whose rationale and a brief video can be found here. This is the trade-oriented page: the consumer version can be found here. This page is full of information about colds and flu, which will be useful to anyone, whether they are in the UK or not – though given seasonal differences between the Northern and Southern Hemispheres those in the south may need to store this in the memory bank!
I’ve taken advice from a pharmacy on several occasions and have always been impressed with their professionalism and the advice they give. I may have been lucky but I haven’t yet found anyone trying to push me towards buying medication: they advised and left me to decide what to do. For smaller ailments this seems to me to be preferable to waiting for a GP appointment, as you are seen sooner whilst reducing the burden on your local GP practice. If you have a moment, do take a look at the NPA’s advice page. Maybe this will help you get the advice you need.
