Friday Funnies 6

It’s been a couple of months since my last post in my occasional Friday Funnies series, so it feels about time for a few more clips to amuse you ahead of the weekend. There is no particular theme to these: they are just a random selection of things which I’ve seen on YouTube and which have made me laugh. Let’s face it, we all need something to laugh about these days, don’t we! This might look a little daunting at first sight, but some of these are very brief so I’ve added in a few extra so that you don’t feel short changed.

This first one is a case in point, as it comes in at just 30 seconds, but is the funniest thing I’ve seen in ages:

A lot of those so-called outtakes are actually anything but – you can tell that they have been rehearsed. This one is definitely not rehearsed, as the reactions of everyone else show: Chris Pratt’s line wasn’t planned or scripted, and is brilliant.

TV quiz shows are often the source of a good laugh, usually when we admire the incredible stupidity of some of the answers. Here are a couple from the UK show Pointless. First, someone who makes you fear for her safety when she is allowed out on her own – the best part is watching the reaction of her playing partner:

The really frightening thing about that is that she is a student at one of our country’s better universities. Standards have dropped since my day!

There is a ‘celebrity’ version of the show called, naturally, Pointless Celebrities. I think that is one of the most accurate names ever for a TV show. Here are a couple proving that for me:

Sophia Myles and David Graham have both enjoyed pretty good careers as actors, but it seems that somewhere along the way they didn’t find much time to get into pop music. I love the way the host, Alexander Armstrong, tries – and fails – not to laugh at the answer, delivered with such confidence by Sophia.

This next one is a little different. It isn’t laugh out loud funny, but it is very amusing – and very clever:

The video was created by Matthew Weathers, who teaches maths at Biola University in California, and has made several similar videos of pranks he has played in class and occasionally even in business conferences. Someone like him would make even one of the dullest subjects fun, I think. He hasn’t made any new ones for some years, now, so I guess he may have retired, but there are plenty more like this to enjoy on YouTube if you want to seek them out.

Wedding speeches can often be a good source of funnies. Unusually, perhaps, this one actually makes the speaker the subject, rather than telling unfortunate stories about the groom’s past:

Again, not laugh out loud funny but I love the reactions he gets, especially from his brother.

I’m not sure if we get this show over here, and I probably wouldn’t watch it anyway, due to the host’s poncey pronunciation of his surname. He isn’t French ffs! But his show does make me laugh when I see YouTube clips, like this recent one:

An easy target, perhaps, but Numpty really does ask for it, doesn’t he. For the record, Stephen Colbert sometimes ‘jokingly’ claims that his surname is French, but his ancestry is actually 15/16ths Irish, and one of his paternal great-great-grandmothers was of German and English descent. Perhaps he should rename himself O’Kohlbert?

In Friday Funnies 5 I played a clip of Barry Humphries being Sir Les Patterson. He always makes me hoot with laughter, so here’s another, which evokes a similar response:

The great thing about that is how he plays both to the audience and his co-stars, and Martine McCutcheon’s reaction is priceless.

Before I overstay my welcome, I’ll leave you with one final clip. This is the longest of the set, but it’s an all time classic from one of the best tv comedy shows of all time:

That’s all for today, and I hope you found something to enjoy amongst these. See you again for Song Lyric Sunday 😊
