Given the state in which we find the world today, with the battle against the Covid-19 virus, some of the things I drew on in this post three years ago seem rather trivial by comparison. I’m assuming that many of you won’t have seen this before, as you weren’t following my blog back then, so I’m sharing it again to show you that I can be a real misery guts when the mood takes me, instead of the little ray of sunshine I usually am in my posts. Ahem…
Somehow, I don’t think we’ll be hearing much about International Day of Happiness today, even if it has the UN’s backing. But I hope you can find some joy in today – even if it is just that the shops had some toilet rolls. If you open up the original post you’ll see one of the most joyous pieces of music I know: consider it my contribution to making at least three minutes of your day better than they were. Take care. Be safe. The government has it all under control – well, that’s what they tell us 😉
In case you hadn’t noticed and the festivities had passed you by, today is International Day of Happiness. I think we could be forgiven for not noticing this as the celebrations here in the UK appear to be non-existent. How could this be? This is a long-standing tradition that goes all the way back to, er, 2012, when it was first decreed by the United Nations. Here’s the relevant extract from their resolution, in case you don’t believe me:

Take It Easy

The initiative by the UN may not be sitting well with the world right now considering the disparities in society. The irony is the pandemic is now shining the spotlight in this widening gap, as if to say, ‘i am always here.’
With that said, the only way to get through each day is to sprinkle happiness – no – ‘squeeze in’ happiness in whichever way you can for the days are dark, full of really sad news and gloom, the world over!

I did trot over and I did enjoy what you write. I had some smiles, I nodded my head and I was in accord with you throughout. And that was my individual choice. I really think that trying to make a particular day ‘Happiness Day’ is utterly futile and highly insulting to those who happen to be the polar opposite on the day in question. Fortunately no-one seems to have cottoned on to its existence and I think it’s better to leave it that way …. It’s good to be back and I’m happy to see you trotting out the good stuff. Sadly I couldn’t see the video so I’ll have to imagine a song you may have chosen xx

Thank you, great to see you back! If you scroll down you’ll see the chat we had when I first posted this, a lifetime ago. It’s now had eight years to catch on and I suspect that even the UN can’t be arsed to promote it now, especially not this year.

So much happy you are sending my way! I’ve just tweaked my landing page and the Who Am I page on my blog in readiness for recommencing posting of half-baked drivel. 🤣. It might amuse you that when I worked for Queen my nickname was ‘The stormtrooper in stilettos’ on account my penchant for high-heeled long boots and fitted jackets and reputation (totally unfounded) for wielding a whip when getting things done. They even had a stage pass designed with a caricature of ‘me’ dressed to thrill in something that definitely resembled a Gauleiter’s togs xx

I do have one. But it’s in France. Perhaps I will ask the Mayor to unearth it – he has a key to our house. I now have visions of an ‘Allo ‘Allo style plot as the villagers stealthily break out of their quarantine to liberate this oh la la evidence of the sordid past of l’anglaise. 😳 xx

You make some excellent points, Clive. Kindness, love, happiness, even hate, can’t be forced upon us. It’s either there, or it’s not. By the way, the giant conman is still at it, telling us each day how great he is. His false assertions don’t change anything either.

Thanks, Pete. I actually had another post written for today but this came up in my Timehop feed and seemed still relevant, somehow. I think there’s the beginnings of a good idea underlying the UN’s initiative but it just doesn’t feel right to me. We see every day how Agent Orange continues to debase himself to even lower levels: sadly, the great British public has seen fit to elect his Mini-Me as our ‘leader.’ There seems to be no escape from mass stupidity!
